When you purposefully take a year off between high school and college, or college and the real world they call it the "Gap Year." It sounds proactive. It implies you're saving whales and generally making a difference in the world before embarking on your career in the real world. When you do the same thing without saving a whale, floundering about and wondering what comes next we call it the "Lost Year."
"The thing about working with time, instead of against it, is that it is never wasted. Even pain counts."
The Dispossessed

It's really terrifying for me--life after graduation! I've never had to pay any bills or take care of myself financially. Part of me doesn't know if I can really handle it, even though another part knows that I can and I am afraid because it is unbroached territory.
I was ready to move on from college, however. Things began to stagnate and I felt so stifled at college. I didn't have a car, so I was stuck on campus most of the time. However, I did love the independence and some of the people I got to meet at the school. I'm also going to miss the perks-like free laundry, movies, late night events, etc!
