When you purposefully take a year off between high school and college, or college and the real world they call it the "Gap Year." It sounds proactive. It implies you're saving whales and generally making a difference in the world before embarking on your career in the real world. When you do the same thing without saving a whale, floundering about and wondering what comes next we call it the "Lost Year."

ah yes - do what makes you happy. if only that was as easy as it sounds. ;)
The problem arises when TRYING to do what makes you happy ends up making you miserable.
It's quite a cunundrum...did I spell that right? What a strange word...
